Answer: They might but they will all be smooth with a big walk. See our section Cross With a Foxtrotter

Question: How sound are these horses?

Answer: These are amazingly tough horses with very few medical problems. They are used extensively in the states by endurance riders and forrest rangers.

Question: What colours do they come in?

Answer: They come in a huge array of colors in the States. Ours are mostly sorrel (chestnut) or Palomino. That is because our old stallion Ozark was a golden palomino and therefor carried the sorrel and the cream gene. One of our original mares is a sorrel the other is a Buckskin. The buckskin is the creme gene plus the black gene with the agouti gene. In other words a bay. We got one cremello out of her when her creme gene and Ozark’s creme gene came together.

All this will change at “Willowbank Farm” with the arrival of our new stallion “Willowbank’s Legacy". He is a buttermilk buckskin and therefore carries the black gene the agouti gene and the creme gene. We anticipate all sorts of interesting colors in his progeny.

Question: How about there feet?

Answer: Well there is nothing truer than the old saying “ No foot no horse” You will find that foxtrotters have superb feet. They are very upright and boxy and relatively small and very hard. Our farrier is amazed by them.They are often ridden barefoot in the US but I do not recommend this in New Zealand as it is too wet.

Question: Why are they expensive?

Answer: The reason is the importation and Quarantine costs. It currently costs approx $17,500 US dollars to import one of these from the USA. Get one from us and you will be saving a pile of cash.

Question: How good are your horses compared with foxtrotters in the USA?

Answer: When I made the decision to breed foxtrotters in NZ I wanted to be certain that I did justice to the breed and brought in only the very best horses. When you look at the importing costs to do otherwise would be very short sighted. All our horses are blue papered. This means that they have at least six generations of registered foxtrotters in their pedigree.
